Fact versus Fiction
Many people think that greasers were exactly like how they are represented in movies, they are most commonly represented as 'badboys' that girls constantly fawn over.
However, in reality, they dressed similarly to the boys we see on television, with slicked back hair, white undershirts with leather jackets, and tight blue jeans. Movies don't tell the whole story, because greasers were constantly getting into trouble, including gambling, drinking, and all of them were in some type of gang.
Most greasers were more on the poor side of town, which is part of the reason that they were in gangs, they needed easy money.
Greasers were basically like our modern day gang members, except they didn't engage in nearly as much violence as today's gangsters.

Greasers are not just the thieves and flirty womanizers we often see, they are also compassionate. They are very aggressive and act tough towards Socs but when they're around just themselves they worry about looking out for each other and making sure they don't get hurt.
Despite what the movie Grease makes you think, no, greasers did not run around singing and dancing everywhere. Movies don't alter the greasers too much, but they're still not very accurate. Greasers were gang members, from the poor side of town who weren't afraid to shed a couple drops of blood (whether it's their own or someone else's) for their fellow greasers. Not all greasers were incredibly attractive, also despite what movies portray.
